Keep Calm and Collect Photos ( Dividends )

Like personal finance, we have our own preferences in choosing things that make us happy. Some like to own “luxury items “, some prefer having bigger house or driving a big car and others may just like to enjoy good food or best cuisine.
As you know, holidays is our biggest expenses every year since STE and Mrs like to travel. This year, we have our family trip to Hokkaido and we really enjoyed the nice scenery , foods   and of course experiencing different culture of Japan.
Like Investing, it is the journey during the holidays that we enjoy the most as I like to sit quietly at the back of the bus and taking photos. Sometimes, the scenery at the destination may not appear as what we have expected due to weather change and full of unexpected events or incidents. For example, due strong winds , we were not be able to take the cable car to enjoy the spectacular night view of Hakodate city from the mountain. Similarly, in investing , is the journey of “analysing “ and selecting a stock , discussing investing ideas with friends , reading reports and news on companies we have invested , collecting dividend etc… that make us happy although the end result might be different from our initial expectation.
Investing is a long journey, especially for investor who practices  “income investing” like me ….it take very long time to allow the miracle and power of compounding effect to take place. Compound effect is a fundamental component of wealth creation and by understanding just this one principle, you can make a significant difference to your financial independence over the long term.

 Wow! Time flies as my last blog post has been almost 6 months. As we reach the midpoint of 2024, the stock market presents a mixed bag of opportunities and challenges.   Higher For Longer   The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady in the recent FOMC meeting, while also indicating it still expects one more hike before the end of the year and fewer cuts than previously indicated next year. In addition to holding rates at relatively high levels, the Fed is continuing to reduce its bond holdings through the so-called QT , a process that has cut the central bank balance sheet by some $815 billion since June 2022 . The Fed is allowing up to $95 billion in proceeds from maturing bonds to roll off each month, rather than reinvesting them.   A Rollercoaster Ride I know, Uncle was really late to have this 2023 performance review as we are already in February 2024 😊 . Pai-seh, I was busy with a family trip to Korea followed by a Cruise Trip onboard RCL. Also, during the school holidays, we went a few times short trips to Malaysia and back to my hometown. image credit Izquotes.com Is time to calculate our dividend income for 1 st Qtr 2018 as the financial result for most of the company should have been announced by this time. The market has gone through like a “ roller coaster “ ride in 1 st Qtr 2008 where it was down by almost 10% at one point and rebounded subsequently. As I mentioned in my early blog post ( here ), even with correction of 10-20% from the current high in the US market, I would consider it still as “ expensive or rich in valuation “ and normal correction in any market cycles.
